PADI CAREER DEVELOPMENT SCUBA DIVING COURSE (CDC) – FAQ
- WHY CHOOSE PADI?
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world-wide association that certifies the diving courses that you will be taught by Into the Blue Scuba Diving Cape Town.
By choosing to do a PADI course, you are assured of a very thorough and well-planned course. PADI keeps the fun in diving, while at the same time also teaching strict safe scuba diving practices. The quality of PADI courses and standards has excelled them into the foremost recreational diving association in the world.
Currently about 82% of all recreational scuba divers across the world do their diving through PADI – which means that no matter where you go, PADI Instructors really have the widest recreational diving career options available out there! - WHY CAPE TOWN?
In recent years Cape Town has exploded into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The city vibrates with life and adventure, in a way that no other city in South Africa does.
Learning to scuba dive in Cape Town’s waters will give you an advantage over instructors who have been taught in more tropical waters. Diving in Cape Town waters, you will sometimes experience conditions that require more skill than tropical waters – colder water, bad visibility at times, severe winds at times, currents and swells. You get brilliant diving days in Cape Town and you also get days where diving is not that easy. Learning to be a PADI Diving Instructor in these conditions makes you high in demand. World-wide instructors originating from Cape Town and from the UK are sought after, as you will have learned how to adapt to different diving conditions.
As Cape Town lies between the colder Atlantic and the warmer Indian Ocean, its waters boast sea life that is very unique. Since the 1500’s it has been estimated that around 800 ships have sank around the Cape Peninsula – which makes for great shipwreck diving!
Finding a place to stay in Cape Town is relatively easy and it’s an amazing place to live! - WHY DO MY INTERNSHIP AT INTO THE BLUE SCUBA CENTRE?
At Into the Blue, we pride ourselves in training the best PADI Instructors out there. Our candidates are known to perform the best in the Instructors Exams, as they have been well prepared. We also have our own in-house IDC Staff Instructor, which means that we have a special insight in how to prepare you best for your career as an instructor.
Furthermore, we have an amazing atmosphere and work ethic at Into the Blue. Candidates are normally quite sad when the time comes for them to move on and they have described their career development course as "the best time of their lives". - IS IT HARD WORK?
Diving is a lot of fun, but you should also know that working in a dive centre is hard work. As an intern you will be starting at the bottom of the diving professional world and you will be working yourself up. Running a dive centre includes a lot of things that does not meet the eye immediately – things like washing the gear after a dive, keeping the centre clean, marketing, selling gear (for which you really have to know your gear) and being an all round handyman.
The idea behind the internship is that you get to know every area of a dive centre – from bottom to the top. By the time that you finish your internship with us, you will be able to walk into any dive centre with a firm foundation of skills toward doing whatever they need from you.
If you have a student or part-time job on the side, we will do our best to accommodate your hours to fit in with your work hours. Talk to us so that we can see how we can make our schedules fit. - WHY BECOME A SCUBA DIVE INSTRUCTOR?
- The lifestyle is great – your office is the beach
- It is for the adventurous
- It is an amazing tool for travelling – there are dive resorts all over the world, most of them in exotic places. If you are thinking of going travelling, then becoming a scuba dive instructor is a great qualification to have. Do something you like while earning money and seeing places instead of working as unskilled labourer in a factory in England or working on a farm in Kansas (been there, done that!). You can even go work on cruise ships as a scuba dive instructor.
