Some of our favourite scuba dives:

Shipwreck diving

The Maori

Lying just off Houtbay, the Maori sank on August 5, 1909. Hailed by the famous Jaques Cousteau as one of the best preserved shipwrecks of its age, it is a journey back in time as you find porcelain pieces over a hundred years old lying next to train tracks on the bottom, next to the wreck.

A cold dive, but definitely worth it.

The SAS Pietermaritzburgt

Formerly known as the HMS Pelorus, she was one of the ships leading the assault on Normandy on D-day, making her a truly historical gem. Bought by the South African Navy and scuttled in 1994, she makes for a great dive.

Diving with Seals

A must for every scuba diver. Sit at a depth of 6 metres, surrounded by hundreds of seals playfully circling around you - A magical experience! Found just off Houtbay, Cape Town, we recommend combing this experience with diving the nearby Maori wreck.

Diving with Cowsharks

A truly unique experience as this is one of the few spots in the world where you can dive with cow sharks this shallow. Also known as 7-gilled sharks, these are probably the most primitive of all sharks – and only one of 2 shark species in the world that has 7 gills. Sizes range from small to about 1.4 metres to 4.8 metres.

They are very inquisitive and it has even happened on previous dives that they rubbed against divers while gliding by. These sharks are usually not aggressive towards divers, and are normally quite sluggish – but can become aggressive if provoked.

Nature Dives

A-Frame

A-frame is one of Cape Town's favourite shore scuba dives. It hosts a cave, and a couple    of big rocks that we dive around, all covered with really colourful sea life. Be on the   lookout for a big sponge, and lots of starfish.

Windmill

Close to the penguin colony in Simonstown, you are sometimes greeted by these little guys on your way down to the dive site. We dive around some big rocks, that are painted with all kinds of colour as sea life grows and lives on them. Be on the lookout for Pajama sharks, and Nudibranchs!

Justin's Caves

Located on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, this site
is a must dive for every diver   who loves colourful swim-throughs and tunnels. The sheer amount of colour that just seems to have exploded across these rocks is breathtaking, and you're transported into a fairytale world as the light simmers down to you in the kelp forests. A really beautiful dive.

did you know?

We also have numerous other scuba dive spots around the Cape Town area where we love to dive. Be sure to ask us about them.

It is believed that since the mid 1500's more than 800 ships have sunk around Cape Town. This leaves us with plenty of shipwrecks to explore! Recreational casual diving has never been so much fun...
